gleisols Definition
Definition
Gleysols are a soil order which is a type of gley soil, characterized by subsurface horizons that are distinctly colored due to accumulation of organic matter, and are sometimes waterlogged, leading to the formation of anoxia (lack of oxygen). They are typically found in climates with cold, humid winters and summers and have a high water table, leading to reddish or brownish layers near the surface that are less easily oxidized than in other soils.
