enantiomorphy Definition
Definition
The condition of being enantiomorphic; the correspondence in form between an organic molecule and its mirror image, which is non-superimposable (i.e., dissimilar). This term can also refer to the correspondence in structure or appearance, but not superimposability, between two organs or parts of an organism that are mirror images of each other, such as the wings of a butterfly or the tentacles of a nautilus. In chemistry, enantiomorphs are pairs of molecules that cannot be superimposed on one another by rotation or reflection, and they have the same chemical structure but differ in orientation of their atoms in space, leading to different biological effects, albeit being chemically identical.
