caboose Definition

The caboose was traditionally the last car of a freight train, often used by train crews for a lunchroom, sleeping quarters, and occasionally for signaling the end of the train. Nowadays, it may also be a carriage or compartment attached to the rear of a freight or passenger train, typically used for storage or stabling of horses, now largely phased out in modern railway systems.
