afterswarm Definition

In entomology, especially in the biology of bees, afterswarm refers to the second swarm of a colony, following the initial swarm. It occurs when the hive becomes too crowded with bees and the queen lays eggs to replace those that were taken in the first swarm, leading to another large group of bees leaving the original hive.
