A person who believes in the doctrine of transubstantiation, which posits that the bread and wine used in the Eucharist are transformed into the literal body and blood of Christ at the moment of consecration, with the substance (essence) of the sacramental elements changing, while the accidents (sensory characteristics) remain the same.
