Echeneididae Definition

A family of rays (order Batidae) having a strong fleshy prolongation of the head that usually bears a sucker and enables the animal to attach to swimming vessels, whales, dolphins, or other large fish. Commonly known as remoras. They are widespread in warm seas and are usually dark brown to black in color.
